Category Insight Manager – Commercial Department

Location: On-site + Travel Flexibility Required (Stateside offices & Customer HQs) Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00 (Full-time, permanent position)

About the Role

We are seeking a Category Insight Manager to drive and deliver the agreed category vision while ensuring profitable growth in collaboration with Commercial Managers. The role is cross-functional, working alongside internal teams and Customer Head Offices to optimize category performance.


Key Responsibilities

Category Leadership & Vision

  • Deliver and champion the category vision in line with Stateside’s strategic goals.
  • Act as the Staff Category Captain (where applicable) to maintain exemplary customer relations through best-in-class category management.
  • Provide data-driven insights to shape merchandising layouts, macro space utilization, and decision-making aligned with customer decision trees.

Research & Market Intelligence

  • Source and manage category research requirements with external agencies and present findings internally and externally.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly category scorecards and market updates, including presentations at Customer Head Offices—travel flexible.
  • Monitor and brief stakeholders on weekly competitor activity snapshots, ensuring the business remains agile to market changes.

Promotions & Strategic Support

  • Analyse promotion effectiveness, recommending future mechanics to enhance performance.
  • Oversee the BrandBank process in conjunction with NPD (New Product Development).
  • Collaborate with customer strategy days and product submission sessions as an integral team member.

Customer Engagement & Growth

  • Work closely with customers to drive category sales and growth through targeted marketing activity.
  • Present key category insights to diverse stakeholders, adapting styles and approaches as needed.
  • Provide ad hoc analytical support to help customers make market-informed decisions.

Team Contribution

  • Offer assistance and expertise to Commerical teams and Stateside-wide colleagues as required.
  • Build positive networks with internal and external colleagues to foster collaboration.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource, ensuring decisions align with UK Grocery Retailer trends and customer needs.

Skills & Requirements

We are looking for a passionate, analytical professional with:

  • Strong understanding of UK Grocery Retailers and category management best practices.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal) to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Outstanding presentation skills, including confidence in delivering in-person and remote updates.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities to distil insights from complex data.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to Customer offices/retail environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while driving forward momentum.

The ideal candidate will balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, ensuring our customers achieve growth through informed, evidenced-based decisions.
