The Recipe (About the Role)
As a Category Lead, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering a clear, insight-led Category Vision across both customer accounts and internal teams. This role combines strategic thinking with commercial impact—translating consumer, shopper and market insights into compelling category strategies and tailored customer plans that drive sustainable growth for the retailer, the category and the wider business.
- Deliver and activate the category vision both internally and with customers, ensuring alignment to retailer strategies and wider business priorities
- Partner with customers to bring the category strategy to life, building long-term relationships focused on shared growth across branded and private label ranges
- Translate insight into action by developing clear point-of-purchase plans across fixtures, displays and digital touchpoints
- Use data and insight to shape recommendations, delivering range, display and distribution outcomes for each customer
- Provide category insight to influence judgement across commercial teams, brand strategy and New Product Development (NPD)
- Own the shopper and in-store experience, ensuring judgements reflect real customer behaviour and mission-based shopping
- Monitor market performance and trends, maintaining a strong understanding of competitors, shopper needs and emerging opportunities
- Develop clear category frameworks and storytelling that support marketing and commercial strategies and strengthen customer engagement

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
