Category Lead - IT

Category Lead – IT & Technology (Procurement)

Location: Hybrid to Peterborough or London (ideally 1–2 days per week)

Markerstudy is seeking a commercially minded Category Lead to manage its IT and Technology procurement strategy. In this strategic leadership role, you will develop and deliver sourcing strategies across software, hardware, cloud services, and IT infrastructure, ensuring technology investments are cost-effective, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.


About the Role

  • Drive end-to-end procurement for IT and Technology categories, managing high-value annual spend
  • Shape strategic sourcing for SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and enterprise applications, optimising budgets and licence efficiencies
  • Oversee procurement of IT hardware, devices, networks, and infrastructure, ensuring performance, resilience, and cost control
  • Guide adoption of IT services, including managed services, consulting, and support, enhancing operational capability
  • Negotiate complex commercial contracts and SLAs with vendors to deliver bespoke solutions for long-term technological success
  • Embrace procurement automation and leverage procurement platforms (e.g., Ariba, Coupa, Oracle) to improve visibility and efficiency
  • Ensure hybrid procurements meet data security, regulatory, and cyber risk requirements, mitigating business risks

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Value Creation

  • Lead cost analysis and value-added procurement tactics to maximise ROI
  • Align IT Technology spend with digital transformation objectives and business priorities
  • Implement risk-based vendor management, ensuring compliance and cronly security

Relationship & Commercial Expertise

  • Negotiate with distinguished technology suppliers and vendors to negotiate favourable contracts and SLAs
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders from technical and non-technical backgrounds, bridging gaps effectively

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Utilise data-driven insights to optimise processes and drive continuous improvement
  • Promote integration of AI and automation tools for procurement optimisation

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in procurement within IT/Technology categories
  • In-depth understanding of IT technologies, software, cloud models, and enterprise solutions (hardware, security, networks)
  • Proven track record of cost optimisation and strategic procurement within high-value sectors
  • Rezumee experience with procurement platforms such as SAP Ariba, Coupa, or Oracle
  • Strong negotiating, commercial, and contract management skills
  • Outstanding stakeholder management across executive, technical and operational teams
  • An analytical approach backed by a progressive and adaptive mind
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, IT, Supply Chain, or equivalent (a Master's degree is preferred)

Bonus Considerations:

  • Experience in regulated or insurance/commodity trading businesses would be desirable
  • Professional CIPS certification or CPSM equivalent is highly regarded
