Category Manager

We are looking for a Category Manager to be responsible for the delivery of Category Plans that maximise sales and profit for both Bestway and our Retailers.


About the Role

The role encompasses all aspects of Category Management, including:

  • Ranging
  • Pricing
  • Strategy development
  • Supplier management
  • Promotional planning
  • Securing income for marketing and media support

The Category Manager will:

  • Mentor and develop Category Assistants
  • Oversee Category-specific activities of Category Assistants

  • Ensure all activities and decisions align with sales, wholesale margin, retail POR, and cash profit budgets
  • Maximise availability across product categories using sound commercial reasoning and influence
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop Joint Business Plans
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships effectively
  • Develop and implement Category strategy, ensuring financial targets are met
  • Negotiate supplier income for media promotional support and targeted initiatives
  • Oversee ranging and pricing in line with current policies and business strategy
  • Plan and communicate requirements for seasonal promotions and corporate initiatives across the supply chain
  • Conduct range management, identifying gaps, reviewing current portfolio, liaising with suppliers, and managing the price proposition
  • Define and optimise Own Brand strategy for a balanced portfolio of branded and proprietary products
  • Ensure admin tasks for the specific category are completed accurately and on time
  • Analyse promotional effectiveness and product category forecasts

About You: Requirements

  • Significant experience in FMCG Wholesale or Retail (Buying/Sales or Category Management)
  • Strong attributes, including tenacity, determination, and assertiveness in driving commercial success
  • Ability to manage conflict while maintaining positive relationships internally and externally
  • Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills
  • Experience in creating and implementing Category Strategy and promotional plans
  • Numeracy with a proven track record in analysing performance and market data
  • Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to continuous improvement
