Category Manager
A leading, multi-billion-pound diversified multinational group is seeking a dynamic and commercially driven Category Manager to join its growing team. Operating across the wholesale, retail, and pharmacy sectors, this established organisation serves over 12 million customers and supports communities across the UK and internationally.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering strategic Category Plans that maximise sales and profitability for both the business and its retail partners.
The Role
The Category Manager will oversee all aspects of category management, encompassing:
- Ranging
- Pricing
- Strategy development
- Supplier management
- Promotional planning
- Securing income for marketing and media support
Additionally, this individual will play a pivotal role in:
- Mentoring and developing Category Assistants
- Overseeing their day-to-day activities

Main Responsibilities
- Create and implement comprehensive category and Own Brand strategies to meet budget targets for:
- Sales
- Wholesale margin
- Retail POR (Profit over Returns)
- Cash profit
- Work closely with suppliers to:
- Generate Joint Business Plans
- Negotiate income for media promotional support
- Effectively manage key internal and external relationships
- Drive product ranging and pricing in line with company policy, including:
- Identifying market gaps
- Reviewing current range status
- Ensuring an optimal balance of branded and own-brand products
- Plan, communicate, and analyse:
- Effectiveness and forecasts of seasonal promotional events
- Corporate initiatives across the supply base
- Maintain high product availability using sound commercial reasoning
- Ensure all administrative tasks for the category are completed accurately and on time

About You
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Significant experience within the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) Wholesale or Retail sectors, specifically in:
- Buying
- Sales
- Category Management
- A proven track record of:
- Creating and delivering successful category strategies
- Managing promotional plans
- Analysing performance and market data
- Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to:
- Build robust internal and external relationships
- Confidently manage conflict to achieve successful outcomes
- Tenacity, determination, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to:
- Continuous improvement
- Team mentorship
