Category Manager - Operations and Delivery Procurement

The Role & Responsibilities

A broad, high-impact role combining strategic category management with hands-on commercial delivery. Acting as Procurement’s "front door", this person will triage spend requests, run sourcing events, negotiate and manage contracts, own a savings target, and help embed Shawbrook’s new procurement end-to-end orchestration and CLM systems—all within an FCA-regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

Category Management & Sourcing

  • Generalist coverage across indirect/corporate spend categories (no single vertical)
  • Develop category strategies using spend analysis and market intelligence
  • Run end-to-end sourcing events (RFx, evaluation, negotiation, award)
  • Own the renewals pipeline and drive supplier rationalisation across ~1,200 suppliers
  • Contribute to company and stretched savings targets (tracked monthly)
  • Work with Relationship Owners and business teams to build and manage a savings/sourcing pipeline (price, volume, consolidation, efficiency)

Contract Management & Commercial Control

  • Manage and update the contract register
  • Negotiate lower-level commercial agreements (SLAs, liability, IP, exit rights, payment terms)
  • Identify and escalate risk deviations to Legal where needed
  • Treat renewals as sourcing opportunities, not administrative tasks

Operational Delivery (P2P & Systems)

  • Assist in supporting the implementation of the new procurement orchestration/CLM tool (workflow design, training, change management)
  • Operate as procurement front door with policy-based triage and manage new procurement orchestration tool
  • Lead the interface into the Finance-owned P2P system: adoption, data quality, and query resolution

Governance & Compliance

  • Maintain FCA-compliant audit trails
  • Manage waivers and exceptions
  • Coordinate sourcing activities and supplier due diligence with Third Party Risk Management

The Person

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in generalist category management across multiple indirect spend areas
  • Confidence running sourcing events independently, including complex deals
  • Commercially literate in contracts: able to review and redline low-level agreements
  • Strong background in procurement operations (P2P, PO management, contract registers, supplier onboarding)
  • Track record of driving system adoption and embedding process change
  • Strong management information (MI) and reporting skills (spend dashboards, savings trackers, pipeline reports)
  • Stakeholder management experience, including finance and senior business sponsors
  • High attention to detail; comfort in audit-ready, regulated environments
  • Strong written communication (business cases, briefings, MI packs)

Desirable

  • CIPS qualification (Level 4–6) or working towards it
  • Hands-on experience with CLM or procurement orchestration tools (e.g., Coupa, Ivalua, Jaggaer, Zip, Omnea, Ariba, Proactis, Atamis, Gatekeeper)
  • Understanding of FCA Material Outsourcing and Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) frameworks
  • Experience in leading or supporting P2P system implementation or redesign
  • Background in supplier consolidation or tail spend rationalisation
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted procurement tools
  • Experience in digital transformation or technology programmes
