Category Manager – Subcontracts & Engineering Trading

Salary: c.£65,000 + £5,000 car allowance + bonus + package
Location: Hybrid, with occasional national travel

A major UK services, engineering and infrastructure organisation is looking to appoint an experienced Category Manager into its central procurement function.

The successful candidate will take ownership of two strategically important category areas: subcontracts and engineering trading. The role supports a complex, nationally dispersed business delivering technical services, energy, infrastructure, refurbishment and facilities-related contracts.
Within this type of organisation, subcontracts may include specialist technical and operational work packages delivered by third-party contractors. Engineering trading relates to the commercial procurement of engineering products, equipment, components and associated supplier arrangements used to support contract delivery.

The Role

  • Develop and implement separate category strategies across subcontract procurement and engineering trading.
  • Consolidate fragmented spend and establish national or regional supplier and subcontractor frameworks.
  • Work with operational, commercial, estimating and procurement teams to support live contracts, bids and mobilisations.
  • Improve pricing, commercial terms, compliance, supplier performance, risk management and continuity of supply.
  • Provide market intelligence and category expertise across a broad and technically complex supply chain.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
