Catering Assistant – Potters Bar Clinic
Are you passionate about food and looking for a rewarding opportunity to work within a healthcare setting helping some of the most vulnerable people in our society?
If so, join Potters Bar Clinic, a service for adults and young people with acute mental health conditions where 37.5 hours per week are required. Reporting to the Head Chef, you’ll support the kitchen team in preparing meals, maintaining hygiene standards, and assisting with deliveries.
This role is calm, social, and creative – offering ample opportunities for interaction and career progression.
About the Role
As a Catering Assistant, you will:
- Assist the kitchen team in the preparation and cooking of meals, following company policies and procedures.
- Serve meals to service users, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain storage procedures, including stock rotation.
- Ensure kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils are cleaned and stored properly.
- Ensure the kitchen meets operational hygiene standards.
- Liaise with dietitians regarding dietary and meal planning.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Prepare and serve nutritious and compliant meals in adherence to dietary, nutritional, and company guidelines.
- Maintain high food hygiene and safety standards.
- Manage food storage, prevention of waste, and compliance with company stock rotation policies.
- Work flexibly within a dedicated team environment.
- Ensure stock, utensils, and kitchen equipment are correctly cleaned and stored.
- Support the Head Chef in delivering excellent service to all users of the service.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, the following are essential:
- Preferred: Relevant catering qualification (desirable).
- Knowledge of COSHH and HACCP certification.
- Experience working in a similar role in a healthcare or social care environment.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.

Potters Bar Clinic is strategically located at: 📍 190 Barnet Rd, Potters Bar EN6 2SE
It is a vegetation-rich residential area, just 1 minute from the M25, with excellent public transport links including a train station and bus stops nearby.
The clinic operates within: 👨👩👧👦 Team of mental health professionals providing care for:
- Adults and young people (13-18) with acute mental health conditions and personality disorders.
- 24-hour care environment, low-secure CAMHS Tier 4 facilities.
- Small but supportive team to work with.
