Catering Assistant

Permanent Catering Assistant – SYFR Training and Development Centre, Handsworth, Sheffield

Location

SYFR Training & Development Centre, Handsworth, Sheffield, S13 9QA

Hours & Contract

  • Part-time, 20 hours per week
  • Flexible hours available
  • Permanent contract

Salary

  • £25,949 per annum, pro rata (Grade 3)
  • To increase subject to national pay award negotiations for 2026

About the Role

The Catering Assistant will play a key role in preparing and serving food, managing stock, and maintaining kitchen/dining room standards at our Training and Development Centre.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Preparation and service of food

    • Assisting with catering requirements for events, training sessions, and daily operations
  • General kitchen and dining room duties

    • Cleaning, setting up, and clearing equipment
    • Tidying dining spaces
    • Ensuring hygiene and safety standards
  • Stock management

    • Picking up, putting away, and rotating stock
    • Ensuring food safety procedures (maintaining records, checking expiration dates, adhering to health regulations)
  • Cash handling and financial administration

    • Operating a till and reconciling transactions

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

✔ Prior experience in a catering, canteen, or food service environment is desirable. ✔ Awareness of food allergies and dietary requirements. ✔ Commitment to maintaining high food hygiene standards.

Preferred Qualifications

🔹 Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

  • Training will be provided to successful candidates who do not already hold this qualification.
