Catering Assistant

Catering Assistant (Breakfast Club) – Cowie Primary School

About the Role

A part-time (permanent) catering assistant role (5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–9:00am) has become available at Cowie Primary School (within Stirling Council). This position covers breakfast club provision, ensuring a high standard of food preparation and service through duties including:

  • Basic food preparation and cooking
  • Food service
  • Maintaining kitchen hygiene and compliance with:
    • Food Safety Act
    • Health & Safety at Work Act
    • Relevant legislation

Catering experience is not required—on-the-job and compulsory off-site training will be provided.

Note: This is a rota-based role—employees may transition to another school location with appropriate notice according to service requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve breakfast meals for children in a school environment.
  • Ensure adherence to kitchen hygiene standards and food safety protocols.
  • Maintain a welcoming and professional atmosphere in the breakfast club area.
  • Assist with menu planning and inventory management as needed.
  • Report any health and safety concerns (e.g., equipment issues, emergencies).

Person Specification

  • No formal qualifications required (training and certification will be provided).
  • A can-do attitude, enthusiasm for teamwork, and responsibility towards food provision.
  • Ability to work with children and colleagues in a structured, positive environment.
  • A valid UK driving licence is not required given the short working hours, but public transport links will be assessed.
  • Willingness to undergo PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) checks for children if the application progresses to interview.
