Join the Ballington House team, part of Elysium Healthcare, where you’ll work 37.5 hours per week in a calm, rewarding, and diverse environment. As a Catering Assistant, you’ll contribute to a dedicated kitchen team while engaging with service users, colleagues, and visitors beyond the kitchen.

About Ballington House
You’ll be working at Ballington House, a 13-bedded mental health rehabilitation hospital specialising in care for women with complex mental health needs. The environment follows a structured pathway from admission to discharge, incorporating:
- Assessment phase (accepting help)
- Rehabilitation phase (believing, trying, and learning)
- Community phase-out (self-reliance)
Progress through these phases typically involves moving from the ground floor to upper floors and apartment spaces.

When you join Ballington House, you’ll be part of multi-disciplinary teams including:
- Consultant psychiatrists and clinical psychologists
- Occupational therapists/assistants
- Nurses and support workers
Together, you’re dedicated to enhancing patients’ wellbeing and rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
As a Catering Assistant, your role includes:
- Assisting chefs in preparing and cooking meals in line with company policies and procedures.
- Serving service users, staff, and visitors with food and beverages.
- Maintaining storage procedures and stock rotation to ensure freshness and compliance.
- Ensuring kitchen hygiene and operational standards, adhering to standards like COSHH and HACCP.
- Monitoring high hygiene standards in the kitchen and surrounding areas.
- Liaising with dietitians and wider team members to fulfil dietary requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
To excel in this role, we seek:
- A relevant catering qualification (desirable but not mandatory).
- Practical experience in a similar catering role (trainee or assistant positions).
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills to support organisational tasks.
- Familiarity with COSHH and HACCP guidelines.
