Catering Assistant
Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary between £26,510 and £28,482 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About The Role
We are currently seeking a Catering Assistant to join our Leisure, Catering & Events Services department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Catering Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting students through:

Food Preparation & Service Support
- Assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving
- Ensure a professional, friendly service
- Support hospitality and special events

Kitchen & Facility Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas
- Wash equipment, conduct deep cleans, and ensure safety and presentation standards

Stock & Operational Support
- Assist with stock control, deliveries, and storage
- Support financial transactions and operational procedures

Customer Service & Engagement
- Provide a welcoming environment
- Handle customer queries and complaints
- Contribute to promotions and sales initiatives

Compliance & Professional Standards
- Uphold food hygiene, health & safety, safeguarding, and EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) requirements
- Maintain professionalism, reliability, and flexibility in service

About You
Essential Requirements
- Experience in customer service and handling transactions (including POS/PDQ systems)
- Basic knowledge/experience in food preparation and cooking
- Understanding of kitchen cleanliness and food hygiene standards
- Competence in IT systems (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with health & safety procedures in a catering environment
- Ability to multitask, follow instructions, and work effectively in a fast-paced team
- Physical capability to lift loads and adapt to varying schedules
Desirable
- Initiative, flexibility, and enthusiasm for continuous learning
- Previous experience in retail, hospitality, or catering settings
