Job Description – CCTV Controller
Location: British Airways Engineering
Reports to: CCTV Team Leader
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off - consisting of 2 days 2 nights 4 off - may change depending on operational needs.
12 hour shifts
Purpose of the Role
To monitor, operate and control CCTV and access control systems within British Airways Engineering facilities, ensuring the safety and security of staff, visitors, assets, and aircraft in line with company procedures, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, and data protection legislation. The role also provides operational support to the wider Security and Operations teams when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor CCTV systems proactively and in real time to detect and respond to security incidents, unauthorised access, or suspicious activity.
- Ensure compliance with CAA, DfT and company security regulations at all times.
- Report and escalate security breaches or safety concerns to the CCTV Team Leader without delay.
- Conduct regular camera checks, ensuring all CCTV equipment is fully operational and faults are reported promptly.
- Manage and control access to secure areas within the Engineering site, verifying identity passes and access rights as required.
- Provide accurate, timely logs, reports, and incident records for operational and investigative purposes.
- Support incident investigations by reviewing and supplying CCTV footage in accordance with Data Protection Act and GDPR requirements.
- Liaise with internal departments, BA Security, local law enforcement, and external contractors when necessary.
- Assist in maintaining high standards of security awareness across all Engineering facilities.
- Participate in regular security exercises and training, including counter-terrorism awareness.
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the CCTV Team Leader, including supporting operations where required.

Skills & Competencies
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- High level of integrity and confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- IT literacy, including experience with CCTV software, access control systems, and incident management tools.
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a CCTV control room or security operations environment (aviation or critical infrastructure preferred).
- SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence (essential).
- Knowledge of CAA, DfT, and GDPR/data protection regulations relating to CCTV use.
- Aviation security training (GSAT or equivalent) desirable.
- First Aid at Work qualification desirable.
Working Conditions
- Shift-based role covering 24/7 operations, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays - Shift Pattern 2 days 2 nights 4 off 12 hour shifts.
- Control room environment with occasional site patrol support if required.
