Are you an experienced Principal Designer looking for a role where your expertise is trusted, your ideas are valued and your career can grow?

At Mascot Management, we're looking for a talented Principal Designer to join our expanding team. You'll lead the delivery of CDM services across a diverse portfolio of construction projects, working alongside experienced Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors to help clients deliver safe, compliant and successful developments.

This is an opportunity to become part of a well-established independent consultancy where you'll have the autonomy to influence projects, build long-term client relationships and play a key role in our continued growth.

Founded in Sheffield in 2001, Mascot Management Ltd is an established multi-disciplinary construction consultancy providing Project Management, Cost Management, Principal Designer and Construction Health & Safety services throughout the UK.

The Role

As Principal Designer, you'll fulfil the statutory duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, supporting clients and design teams throughout the project lifecycle.

You'll work on a broad range of projects, helping to embed safe design principles from the earliest stages while ensuring compliance with current legislation and industry best practice.

This role offers a balance of office-based work, home working and travel to client offices and project sites across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the statutory Principal Designer role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Coordinate pre-construction health and safety information.
  • Lead design risk management throughout the design process.
  • Facilitate design risk workshops and multidisciplinary design team meetings.
  • Review designs and identify opportunities to eliminate or reduce foreseeable risks.
  • Advise clients on their statutory duties and support compliance with CDM 2015.
  • Prepare and review Pre-Construction Information, Design Risk Registers and Health & Safety Files.
  • Undertake project monitoring visits and site inspections.
  • Produce clear, concise technical reports and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, designers and contractors.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of our Principal Designer service.

About You

You'll be an experienced Principal Designer or CDM professional with excellent technical knowledge and the confidence to influence design teams and clients.

You'll ideally have:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering Principal Designer services under CDM 2015.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation.
  • A background in architecture, engineering, building surveying or another construction-related discipline.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong understanding of design risk management and the principles of safe design.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report-writing skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
  • A full UK driving licence.
