Salary Details
The starting salary will be £43,482 on Grade F, depending on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
About the Role
This full-time fixed-term appointment (from 10 August 2026 to 31 July 2027) is available as a secondment.
This part-time post (minimum 0.8 FTE) offers the opportunity to work Hybrid—some time on campus/executive facilities and some from home.
The UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence: Data Science & AI for Sustainable Futures is based at the University of Exeter. The CDT focuses on applying data science and artificial intelligence (AI) to address challenges in environmental sustainability, including climate, water, energy, finance, infrastructure, and health. Central to its work is responsible innovation and ethical decision-making.
Now entering a new phase, the CDT is seeking a Centre Manager to manage its strategic transition, academic operations, and student development as many PhD candidates complete their programmes and progress into alumni or career opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Work closely with the Centre Co-Directors to refresh the CDT’s strategy and processes for the upcoming year.
- Provide professional support for key activities—including doctoral training events, placement coordination with non-academic partners, and CIPD-accredited career development—to transition students into sustainable career pathways.

Administration & Governance:
- Manage a team of Centre Administrators and an Impact Officer.
- Oversee associated committees:
- External Advisory Board
- Academic Steering Group
- CDT delivery committees (publications, grant income reporting, and impact metrics).

Festival of Learning & Events:
- Coordinate mini-conferences, CDT retreats, and student/enterprise placement activities.
- Train and mentor new Centre Administrators & collaborators in best practice.

Financial & Logistics Management:
- Administer CDT budgets for financial sustainability and event funding.
- Maintain close partnership with University finance, HR, and compliance teams.

Impact & Reporting:
- Systematically track and report on CDT outputs (peer-reviewed publications, grant collaterals, and pathway progression).
- Ensure alignment to Centre and University data governance standards.
About You
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Demonstrated project management experience in academic environments (preferably Higher Education or research institutions).
- Expertise in coordinating doctoral/post-doctoral training programmes, including ethical research conduct.
Essential Qualifications/Skills:
- Intermediate-level SQL knowledge.
- Practical experience in administrative or operational leadership and UKRI/equality-training requirements.

- Public speaking and engagement
- Written reporting

Desirable Attributes:
- Professional experience working within a global or diverse team (up to post-doctoral levels).
- Familiarity with commercial markets and enterprise-led career pipelines.
- Knowledge of AI or machine learning applications in social sciences or natural environment.
