Quality Certifications Officer

Permanent Position Location: Birmingham, UK (Preferred: Aston)


About the Role

My client is a precision manufacturing business based in Birmingham, specialising in machining and assembly of high-value, low-volume components, with a focus on:

  • Supply into the naval and marine sector
  • Other marketplaces including civil nuclear

The Quality Certifications Officer will be responsible for evaluating and approving supplier certifications to ensure compliance with customer and industry standards for critical components.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of supplier certifications with customer specifications
  • Review and verify certifications using XRF positive material identification equipment
  • Liaise with suppliers to address discrepancies, corrections, and training needs
  • Train suppliers on certification requirements and provide on-site approval support

Project Lead:

  • Improve certification workflows and process efficiency to reduce lead times
  • Ensure 100% traceability (RFT) of materials and associated certifications

Administrative & Operational:

  • Maintain the certification database and meet KPI targets
  • Handle all material enquiries (internal and external)
  • Oversee adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and update/review where necessary
  • Deviation management, concessions, and document requests (DRs)

Support Roles:

  • Generate and support Quality Assurance System of Records (QASOR) reviews/generations
  • Participate in contract reviews (including Quote2Order processes)
  • Support goods inwards processes
  • Conduct works order reviews and 3rd party test house coordination

Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience in quality assurance, preferably in operational, engineering, or supply chain roles
  • Graduate or equivalent engineering/technical qualification
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Defence/Quality standards (defence accreditations, metallurgy)
    • Metrics-focused environments (weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-motivated, result-driven, with the ability to drive progress collectively

Desirable:

  • Professional qualifications in quality or metallurgy
  • Experience in the nuclear/defence sector
  • Excellent global manufacturing & supply chain exposure
  • Familiarity with audit and audit support (process audits, customer audits, defect analysis)

Essential Securityclearance: Must hold a UK passport (due to security clearance requirements).
