Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies for procedures.
- Set up the operating room, including sterile drapes, solutions, and instrumentation.
- Ensure compliance with Surgical Center policies, regulations, and industry standards.
- Perform pre-operative preparation of patients, including skin preparation and positioning.
- Assemble, inspect, and adjust sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure proper function.
- Assist with patient transport to the operating room and proper positioning on the surgical table.
- Apply sterile draping and maintain the sterile field throughout the procedure.
- Monitor patient information, verify charts, and assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving.
- Pass instruments and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants.
- Assist with surgical counts (sponges, needles, instruments, and supplies).
- Hold retractors, cut sutures, and support the surgical team as directed.
- Prepare, label, and properly handle specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Operate sterilizers, suction devices, surgical lights, and other diagnostic equipment as needed.
- Assist with patient transfer to the recovery area post-procedure.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock the operating room following surgery.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.
- Understanding of growth and developmental principles and the ability to assess patient needs accordingly.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow established channels of communication.
- Ability to maintain professional and collaborative relationships with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years of Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
