CFD Simulation Engineer – Vehicle Thermal Performance
Job purpose
The role of CFD Simulation Engineer Vehicle Thermal Performance will support vehicle thermal performance development. This role focuses on heat management across both the cabin and engine bay environments, ensuring optimal occupant comfort, component reliability, and overall vehicle efficiency.
The role will develop, validate, and apply CFD models to support concept, development, and production phases, working closely with vehicle engineering, HVAC, powertrain, and CAE teams to achieve best-in-class thermal performance.
Key duties and responsibilities
Vehicle Thermal CFD Simulation:
- Develop, run, and maintain CFD models to predict airflow, heat transfer, and temperature distribution across engine bay, powertrain, HVAC, and cabin environments.
- Analyse and optimise cooling strategies for auxiliary components.:
- Evaluate cabin HVAC performance, including airflow distribution, temperature uniformity, and passenger comfort.
- Conduct trade-off studies, sensitivity analysis, and design optimisations to improve thermal efficiency and comfort.
Model Validation & Correlation:
- Correlate CFD predictions with experimental measurements from thermal rigs, wind tunnel testing, and on-vehicle validation.
- Refine simulation models to ensure accuracy, robustness, and predictive capability.
- Provide clear recommendations to improve component and system thermal performance.
