Shape the future of Colchester’s commercial vision

Amphora Group, the commercial arm of Colchester City Council, is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Chair of the Board. This is a unique opportunity to lead a dynamic organisation at the heart of local economic growth, community impact and public-private innovation.

As Chair, you will provide strategic leadership to the Board, working closely with the Chief Executive to deliver Amphora’s vision and ensure the organisation meets its legal, regulatory and commercial responsibilities.

The Role

You will act as both leader and ambassador, ensuring effective governance while representing Amphora at the highest level across the region.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear strategic direction and leadership to the Board
  • Chairing Board meetings to ensure robust debate and effective decision-making
  • Ensuring the organisation meets all legal, regulatory and governance requirements
  • Building strong relationships with Colchester City Council (the shareholder) and key stakeholders
  • Partnering with the Chief Executive to deliver organisational objectives
  • Overseeing performance, financial integrity, and risk management frameworks
  • Acting as a figurehead for Amphora, promoting its values and reputation

About You

We are looking for an inspiring and credible leader who brings:

  • A strong track record in strategic leadership at Board or senior executive level
  • Experience in finance, risk, and regulated environments
  • Excellent communication, diplomacy and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The ability to challenge constructively while building consensus
  • Independent judgement, integrity and professionalism
  • A commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, and public value

You will be comfortable operating at the interface between the public and commercial sectors, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
