Use your leadership or governance experience to help guide a local Scout Group. As Chair of Trustees, you’ll support volunteers, lead the trustee board, and help ensure young people in our community continue to access safe, adventurous Scouting opportunities.

As Chair of Trustees, your leadership will help ensure the long-term sustainability and success of our Scout Group.
Our volunteer leaders dedicate their time to delivering a fantastic programme for young people. By providing strong governance and support through the Trustee Board, you will help create the structure and stability that allows those volunteers to focus on delivering safe, adventurous and impactful activities.
Your contribution will help the group make good decisions, manage resources responsibly, and plan for the future. By leading the Trustee Board and supporting collaboration between trustees and volunteer leaders, you will help ensure the group continues to grow and thrive.
Your role will also strengthen our connection with the local community. Acting as an ambassador for the group, you will help build relationships and promote the positive impact Scouting has on young people.
Ultimately, your involvement will help ensure that more young people in our community have access to the confidence, friendships, life skills and adventures that Scouting provides.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people and supporting volunteers to work effectively together. As Chair of Trustees, you will help guide the Trustee Board and ensure the Scout Group is well governed and able to continue providing opportunities for young people.

You don’t need to have been involved in Scouting before. We welcome volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds who are motivated to make a positive difference in their local community.
The most important qualities we are looking for are
Leadership and facilitation skills – able to chair meetings, guide discussions and help people work well together Strong communication skills – comfortable engaging with volunteers, trustees and the wider community Organisational awareness – able to help oversee governance, planning and decision-making Collaborative approach – supportive of volunteers and able to build positive relationships Commitment to supporting young people and community development
Experience that may be helpful includes
Chairing or participating in committees, boards or trustee groups Leadership or management experience in a professional or voluntary setting Experience in governance, charity work, or organisational oversight Strategic thinking or planning
If you are organised, supportive, and interested in helping a local charity thrive, we would love to hear from you. Training, induction, and ongoing support will be provided through the Scouts and the wider volunteer network.

What will you be doing?
We are seeking a Chair of Trustees (Group Chair) to lead the Trustee Board of our local Scout Group and help ensure the group is well governed, sustainable, and able to provide inspiring experiences for young people.
Scouting helps young people develop skills for life – building confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership through adventure and community activities. Our volunteers deliver an exciting programme for young people each week, and the Trustee Board plays a vital role in ensuring the group is well managed and supported behind the scenes.

As Chair, you will lead the Trustee Board and help create a positive, effective environment where trustees and volunteers work well together. You will chair trustee meetings, guide discussions, and help the board focus on the group’s priorities and long-term direction.
You will work closely with the Group Scout Leader as a supportive partner, ensuring that governance and operational leadership complement each other. Together you will help ensure the group is safe, financially sustainable, and able to grow and thrive.
Key responsibilities include
Leading and supporting the Group Trustee Board Chairing trustee meetings and helping set strategic priorities Supporting good governance, financial oversight and compliance Encouraging effective teamwork among trustees and volunteers Acting as an ambassador for the Scout Group within the community
You don’t need to have been involved in Scouting before. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, supporting volunteers, and helping teams succeed.
Experience in areas such as leadership, governance, committee work, project management, or organisational oversight would be helpful. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who cares about creating opportunities for young people.
Training and support are provided, including trustee and governance training, an induction to Scouting, and ongoing support from the local District and wider Scouts network.
This is a flexible volunteer role that can fit around other commitments and offers a meaningful way to contribute your skills to your local community.
