The Opportunity
The UK-India Free Trade Agreement, signed in July 2025, is now entering its first full year of implementation. With the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) coming into effect on 15 July 2026, the year will also see a series of major bilateral events, including the JETCO meeting, UK-India Week, the UK-India CEO Forum and the Earthshot Prize in India. Consequently, UKIBC's next Chair will be stepping into one of the most consequential moments in the UK-India economic relationship. Both governments are focused on converting political ambition into investment, trade and long-term commercial partnerships, and UKIBC is at the centre of that agenda.
Against this backdrop, the incoming Chair has a dual opportunity. Externally, they will have the platform and relationships to become one of the most visible and influential figures in the UK-India business landscape — engaging with ministers, chief executives, investors and policymakers across both countries to shape the bilateral agenda and grow UKIBC's reach and commercial impact. Internally, they will lead the next phase of UKIBC's own evolution — strengthening governance, renewing the Board, building commercial sustainability and ensuring that the organisation is well positioned to increase its influence, membership and long-term financial sustainability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
