About Tennis Wales

Tennis Wales is the Governing Body of tennis and padel in Wales with a vision to open up tennis across Wales. Tennis Wales aim to transform Welsh communities through tennis and padel and launched their strategy from 2020 – 2024, and in collaboration with the LTA, Sport Wales, and was extended further until December 2026. Tennis Wales are currently working towards a revised version for 2027 and beyond.

Independent Chairperson Opportunity

Tennis Wales is now looking to recruit an Independent Chairperson to lead the Tennis Wales Board to ensure the effective management of the organisation and work in partnership with the CEO to successfully deliver our vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Board to reach strategic decisions and ensure the company’s obligations are fulfilled.
  • Work in partnership with the CEO, taking on the role of line manager whilst representing Welsh tennis and padel.
  • Provide strategic leadership and promote the values of Tennis Wales.
  • Support and guide Board members to effectively fulfil their responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, probity, transparency, and ethical conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion strong governance practices across the organisation, in alignment with the Governance & People Development Framework for Wales (Arwain Cymru).

Requirements

  • Attend all Board meetings (currently 5 per year).
  • Chair the Annual General Meeting.
  • Attend Governance and Staffing Committee meetings.
  • Have regular meetings with the CEO.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders as required.
  • Understand new initiatives and issues affecting tennis and padel, and the wider sporting community by attending LTA, Sport Wales, and other relevant meetings.

Term of Office

  • The term of office is three years initially with a maximum of two, three-year terms.
