Role Description
The Chairperson of the Board is a part-time, on-site volunteer role based in Barry, providing strategic leadership and governance for Motion Control Dance. The Chairperson will lead board meetings, set agendas, and ensure effective decision-making aligned with the charity’s mission and legal obligations. This role includes working closely with the board and senior staff to oversee organizational performance, financial stewardship, risk management, and long-term planning. The Chairperson will support fundraising and partnership development, represent the charity at key events and meetings, and help strengthen relationships with stakeholders. Day-to-day responsibilities may include reviewing reports and policies, mentoring fellow trustees, and ensuring the board operates efficiently and transparently.

- Strong governance and leadership capabilities, including experience chairing meetings, guiding boards or committees, and overseeing strategy and compliance.
- Financial literacy and organizational oversight skills, such as understanding budgets, charity finance, risk management, and performance monitoring.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with trustees, staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
- Experience in the non-profit, community, arts, or education sectors, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing small charities.
- Ability to commit time for preparation and attendance at regular board meetings and occasional community or fundraising events in Barry.
- Sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to inclusive, non-discriminatory practices and safeguarding.
- Passion for dance, arts, or community engagement and a genuine interest in Motion Control Dance’s mission to enrich lives through movement.
