Channel Development Manager (FMCG)
Channel Management Director, UK – Connected Consumer Brands
Job Summary
Responsible for developing and implementing the UK channel management strategy to ensure effective execution across distributors and major retail channels. This role oversees:
- Distributor lifecycle management
- Channel governance, merchandising, and promotional standards
- Capability development
- Identification of market opportunities
- Alignment with business objectives in the FMCG/CE sectors
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement channel management strategies, policies, and operating standards to ensure consistency across the UK market.
- Align channel strategies with overall business objectives, driving commercial success.
Distributor Lifecycle Management
- Manage the full distributor lifecycle, including:
- Partner recruitment and onboarding
- Performance management
- Capability development
- Exit management strategies
Channel Governance & Compliance
- Establish and optimise distributor governance frameworks to ensure partners have:
- Product knowledge
- Commercial capabilities
- Operational support to achieve business targets
- Maintain compliance with company standards across distributors.
Retail Execution
- Oversee product listings, merchandising, in-store displays, and promotions for major UK retail chains (supermarkets, consumer electronics distributors).
- Ensure alignment with retailer requirements and brand standards.
Performance & Market Analysis
- Monitor and evaluate regional channel performance to assess effectiveness of strategies.
- Conduct market, customer, and channel analysis to:
- Identify growth opportunities
- Highlight operational risks
- Recommend continuous improvement initiatives.

Strategic Planning & Collaboration
- Develop channel development plans and recommend actionable strategies to:
- Improve channel efficiency
- Enhance retail execution
- Boost business performance
- Collaborate with commercial, sales, and marketing teams to align channel initiatives with broader business goals.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years’ experience in Channel Management, Distributor Management, or Regional Sales Management within:
- FMCG
- Tobacco
- Other consumer goods industries
- Proven expertise in managing distributor/channel partners throughout the full lifecycle:
- Recruitment & onboarding
- Capability development
- Performance management
- Governance frameworks
- Strong understanding of UK FMCG/consumer electronics distribution models, retail channels, and channel operating principles.
- Hands-on experience developing:
- Channel policies
- Distributor management frameworks
- Execution standards
- Ability to lead retail execution, including:
- Product listings
- Merchandising
- In-store display planning
- Promotional programmes across major retail channels.
- Strong analytical skills to:
- Assess channel performance
- Identify commercial opportunities
- Recommend data-driven solutions.
- Exceptional stakeholder management & communication to influence:
- Internal teams (commercial, sales, marketing)
- External partners (distributors, retailers).
- Self-motivated, commercially driven, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
