Chapter Lead – Software Engineering (.NET)
£50,000 - £70,000
Hereford
Hybrid Working
Fixed Term Contract (Up to 12 Months)
We are looking for an experienced Chapter Lead to join a major fintech transformation programme and play a key role in shaping the future of software engineering within a product-led environment. This is an opportunity to combine people leadership with technical leadership, helping to build and develop high-performing engineering teams whilst contributing to the delivery of scalable, secure platforms that support millions of transactions.
Working within a modern DevOps culture, you'll lead a chapter of Software Engineers and Testers whilst collaborating closely with Product Owners, Architects and delivery teams. You'll be responsible for creating an environment where engineers can thrive, whilst helping drive technical excellence, continuous improvement and engineering best practices across the wider function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing team of Software Engineers.
- Manage the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, development and succession planning.
- Foster a coaching-first culture focused on growth and continuous improvement.
- Set engineering standards and promote best practice across the chapter.
- Provide technical leadership across modern.NET development environments.
- Work closely with Product, Architecture and Delivery teams to support platform evolution.
- Champion DevOps, CI/CD and quality-focused engineering practices.
- Support technical strategy, planning and transformation initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business.

Key Skills
- Strong commercial development background using C# and.NET.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring or managing Software Engineers.
- Experience working within Agile, DevOps or product-led environments.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies and engineering best practices.
- Experience delivering scalable enterprise applications.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Passion for coaching, mentoring and developing engineering talent.
- Experience within fintech, financial services or other regulated industries would be beneficial.

Desirable Skills
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
- Previous experience within a transformation programme.
- Exposure to cloud platforms and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience managing external technical resources or offshore teams.
- Knowledge of modern software architecture and engineering practices.
