About the role

The Role

Step into a role where your expertise and leadership make a real impact, every day is hands-on, fast-paced, and vital to keeping operations running smoothly. As a Chargehand, you'll be at the heart of our workshop operations, ensuring all equipment is maintained to a high standard and ready for hire when our customers need it.

From diagnosing faults to coordinating your team, you'll play a key role in keeping plant and tool equipment available, safe, and compliant across a wide range of customer projects in construction, utilities, and infrastructure.

What You'll be Doing

  • Diagnosing faults and repairing/maintaining small plant and tools both in the workshop and on-site
  • Organising and allocating workload across the workshop team, ensuring all site calls (including out-of-hours) are covered
  • Prioritising returned equipment to maximise availability of Top 50 tools and core plant items
  • Ensuring all equipment is hire-ready, compliant with safety regulations, and meets GAP standards
  • Checking, testing, and tagging equipment accurately
  • Organise and allocate workload among workshop staff, ensuring all site calls (including out-of-hours) are covered in conjunction with the Foreman
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Issuing safety bulletins, capturing acknowledgements, and supporting compliance processes
  • Providing regular feedback to management to support depot performance and improvements

About You

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone technically skilled, organised, and confident leading a team, including:

  • Proven experience in plant and tool maintenance and repair
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience coordinating workloads or supporting a team environment
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations and compliance standards
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • A proactive, professional approach with strong communication skills
  • A team-focused mindset with a willingness to support and develop others
