Role Summary
We are seeking a Chargehand to join our fit-out team based in Sherburn in Elmet.
As Chargehand, you will supervise operatives and provide hands-on support to ensure fitting out, refurbishment, installation, dismantling, and maintenance activities are completed safely, to quality standards, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Compliance:
- Supervise operatives to ensure adherence to legislation, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures
- Deliver hands-on support to execute work safely, efficiently, and conforming to specifications

Planning & Resource Management:
- Allocate daily human resources (employees & subcontractors) to meet programme/budget targets
- Escalate resourcing issues to Service Supervisor/Service Manager

Administrative & Quality Control:
- Verify building allocation paperwork (drawings, specifications, documentation) for compliance
- Maintain accurate SAP records (stock control, checks, building status)
- Manage tool allocation and control per defined processes
- Ensure adherence to environmental standards (waste segregation, resource responsibility)

Meeting & Collaboration:
- Participate in operations review/planning meetings, providing progress/input/requirements

Customer & Team Support:
- Build customer relationships via clear communication and quality service
- Assist with fitting-out/refurbishment activities alongside frontline teams
- Support managers in people processes, promoting a safe, motivated and high-performing team

Requirements
To excel in this role, your experience/qualifications must include:
- SMSTS certification (or equivalent)
- First Aid at Work certification
- Full UK driving licence
- Practical construction experience (preferably in construction, modular buildings, or related installations)
- Health & safety expertise, including RAMS application and site safety protocols
- IT proficiency, particularly SAP systems & MS Office (Excel, progress tracking/reporting)
- Strong communication & team-building skills (ability to manage diverse personnel effectively)
Contract details:
- Location: Sherburn in Elmet
- Hours: Mon–Thurs 7:45 AM–4:30 PM, Fridays 7:45 AM–3:30 PM
- Type: Permanent
