Chartered Building Surveyor
Full-Time Chartered Building Surveyor – Leeds
About the Role
Gateley Smithers Purslow is recruiting a full-time Chartered Building Surveyor to join our expanding team in Leeds, with potential local travel. This busy, varied role will support the Surveying team across a range of insurance projects, primarily focusing on residential and commercial properties in all construction phases.
This is an ideal opportunity for a driven candidate to showcase their ambition, passion for customer service, and professional communication skills. Core responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and provide technical advice on the design, construction, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of all building types and sites.
- Conduct acquisition surveys, condition reports, measured surveys, and defect investigations.
- Prepare technical reports, schedules of works, and work specifications.
- Apply building contracts, conduct contract administration, and ensure compliance with technical standards.
- Deliver large-scale projects independently, applying strong knowledge of construction, insurance, and professional consultancy services.
- Understand and integrate legislation (health & safety, Party Wall, Building Regulations, planning, CDM Regulations 2015).
- Promote company services, secure projects, and act as a prominent representative of Gateley Smithers Purslow.
- Support APC candidates with mentorship to enhance their understanding of building surveying practices.
- Adhere to administrative procedures, personnel policies, and health & safety regulations.

The Person
We are searching for a candidate who demonstrates:
Essential Requirements
✅ MRICS qualification (or charted pathway completion) required ✅ Experience in consulting engineering, surveying, architecture, and planning practices. ✅ Understanding of documents & regulations (Building Regulations, Party Wall, CDM 2015). ✅ Knowledge of defect diagnosis, technical reporting, and contract administration. ✅ Experience in insurance repair projects (advantageous). ✅ Extensive experience in negotiation, supervision, and project leadership. ✅ Strong ability to work efficiently within deadlines and budgets. ✅ Proficiency in mathematics, science, and IT for problem-solving. ✅ Excellent verbal and written communication (client-facing roles). ✅ Adaptability, with a flexible mindset for varied project types.
