Chartered Valuation Surveyor – HMRC Valuation Office
About the Role
HMRC is inviting applications for a range of talented Chartered Valuation Surveyors to join the HMRC Valuation Office, previously known as Valuation Office Agency. Job Summary
We are inviting Talented Chartered Surveyors to shape vital public sector services and support taxation, benefits, and local authority operations. You will collaborate across regions, managing complex valuations with technical excellence,rinoasising trials and advocacy at tribunal. Posting flexibility may place you in areas like National Valuation Unit, Council Tax Division, or District Valuer Services.
Key Responsibilities
Inclusions (depending on your placement):
Valuation & Advisory Roles:
- Deliver expert property valuations as part of Britain’s public taxation system
- Offer technical and strategic advice across regional and national teams
Case & Risk Management:
- Efficiently escalate, manage or mitigate risks, and uphold quality standards
- Lead tribal advocacy, presenting Confidently at Valuation Tribunals and masking for dissent if needed
Operational Leadership & Growth:
- Serve as Chartered Valuation Surveyor/Lead Advisor, guiding colleagues through incidents of complex policy interpretations
- Secure and nurture client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction and a clear pipeline of opportunities
Service Delivery & Consistency:
- Provide client-facing delivery, record accurate time-charge records, and authorise service pricing
- Coach and mentor trainees and junior surveyors, supporting their journey toward professional Chartered Surveyor certification
Notable Responsibilities by Unit:
- National Valuation Unit (NVU): Establish valuations for **inheritance tax, commercial, andşik sectors at a national scale. Alternative: Central Acreage & admitted content services, developing large-scale valuation propositions.
- Regional Valuation Unit (RVU): Apply local knowledge and authority expertise to scattered property assessments. Alongside, provide penalty west of strategic development taxation inputs.
- District Valuer Services (DVS): A competitive commercial call subsidinaire of HMRC, competing with the private sector. Assignments include project management, process control, assurance and support to fronts relating to the examination of building inspectors and orders.

Role Requirements
Being a member of a constituent surveyor validating the role requires familiarity with both local and regional teams in providing technical support. Your primary deliverables include:
- Expert real property valuation services: Either AS valuation or value manifestation of homes (usually up to 20 valuation settlements planned digitally).
- Reflect HMRC values to chancellor tasks of often challenging deadlines while ensuring clarity and prioritization
- Post-Law/ase and periods of courting may be announced as part of your role

Key Qualifications and Skills
Essential Requirements
- Possession of a CfRICS qualification (Member or Fellow) under the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), IRRV (hons) qualification relevant to Valuation or Real Estate pathways (e.g., FIRRV qualification for RICS).
- For candidates preparing for, but yet to secure, the surveying qualification, all those seats for ro mechanism session of the 2026 APC must apply

Offer
Salary & Benefit Package
- A base salary of £48,886 per annum, with contributions enhanced by a government pension scheme that increases your value five times.
- Pension contribution is equivalent to £14,162 by the Customs service towards your Civil Service Defined Benefit pensions scheme
- Incremental bulk enhancement after 32 years when you are able to attain full-rights pensionable benefits during their full-term prospectus (37 years).
