Job Description

Title: Warehouse Team Leader

Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor Department: Operations Business unit: NVS Prepared by: Ryan Brittain Date: 17th August 2018


About the Role

Responsible for leading the Warehouse staff and managing operational activities within the Warehouse. Core duties include:

  • Managing and improving productivity and quality in assigned areas
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety rules
  • Supporting the Operations Management Team in achieving operational targets

Core Responsibilities

1. Performance

  • Maintain an efficient operation to maximise productivity and reduce costs
  • Suggest and implement process improvements for higher efficiency
  • Ensure adherence to good practice standards, reducing product returns and customer complaints
  • Generate ideas for increased departmental throughput
  • Assist in reducing internal product damage
  • Optimise staff utilisation

2. Leadership

  • Foster a "can do" attitude and a leadership culture within the Warehouse
  • Lead and train staff to meet operational targets and Company Values
  • Motivate staff to reduce turnover and maximise potential
  • Provide guidance, including team goals and training needs
  • Be assertive enough to challenge or confront team members when necessary

3. Inventory Systems

  • Develop familiarity and proficiency in the Warehouse Management System (WMS)
  • Train the team to effectively use the WMS

4. Administration

  • Ensure accurate completion of all paperwork on time
  • Resolve queries related to orders and stock issues
  • Produce departmental reports

5. Communication

  • Liaise with other departments and supervisors to ensure efficient service availability
  • Communicate housekeeping and operational standards to the team
  • Listen to team feedback, resolve conflicts through mediation or discussions
  • Conduct regular team meetings on best practices and expectations

6. Health & Safety

  • Maintain full Health & Safety compliance, including PPE usage
  • Promote Health & Safety awareness
  • Ensure knowledge of relevant risk and Fire assessments

7. Additional Duties

  • Comply with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Report stock/premises protection risks to management
  • Assist with other warehouse functions, including departmental coordination, if required
  • Perform reasonable additional duties as needed
  • Step in for the Warehouse Supervisor when absent or unavailable

Personal Attributes & Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • At least 3 years’ experience in an operational logistics environment
  • Self-motivated and results-driven
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Independent thinker and team player
  • Strong PC skills
  • Excellent communication (oral & written) and relationship-building abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of Health & Safety
  • Mature, credible individual with the ability to:
    • Communicate effectively across the organisation
    • Command respect from team members
    • Provide employee training
  • Random drug and alcohol testing may be conducted (in line with company policy).
