Chef – Copthorne Hotel Newcastle Upon Tyne

The Role

The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle Upon Tyne is seeking an experienced Chef to assist the Head Chef in managing the kitchen operation. Whether you’re seeking the next step in your hospitality or culinary career, this opportunity offers a chance to contribute to a dynamic team.


Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass:

  • Working alongside the Head Chef: Taking charge of the kitchen brigade during your shift.
  • Delivery coordination:
    • Supervising the receipt of deliveries.
    • Conducting delivery control checks.
    • Authorising acceptance by signature.
    • Overseeing the correct storage of goods.
  • Hygiene and safety compliance:
    • Ensuring kitchen staff follow correct procedures for equipment operation and cleaning.
    • Strict adherence to Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Emergency protocols.
  • Quality control:
    • Checking food standards before it leaves the kitchen—preserving presentation consistency and service quality.
  • Menu planning and standards:
    • Collaborating with the Head Chef to agree on food preparation and presentation standards.
    • Supporting the creative menu planning within cost targets while maintaining quality benchmarks.
  • Staff training:
    • Assisting with the training of new and existing staff.
    • Maintaining training records and utilising the appraisal system.
  • Cross-departmental communication:
    • Developing relationships with other hotel departments to ensure uniform understanding and adherence to procedures.

Experience & Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven previous experience in hotel/catering operations.
  • Strong kitchen expertise, including food preparation and people management.
  • Proven culinary skills with a detail-oriented approach.

  • Strong communicator to collaborate effectively across teams.
