Chef — Apprenticeship (Production Chef Level 2) - Mitchells and Butlers
Your role is all about delivering the food that keeps our guests coming back! At Mitchells and Butlers, we thrive on the energy of a fast-paced kitchen, and we’re looking for someone who’s eager to learn, passionate about cooking, and proud to contribute to a successful team.
Responsibilities
As part of our Candidate Team, you’ll be responsible for:
- Collaborating with the team: Maintain open communication to ensure an open door culture, fostering a supportive environment where assistance is always offered.
- Team engagement: Actively participate in team meetings, bringing your insights to the table.
- Food production: Prepare, cook, and present food quickly, safely, and efficiently to brand standards.
- Guest service: Handle customer queries and complaints professionally and promptly.
- Kitchen hygiene: Maintain challah kitchen and back-of-house standards with meticulous attention to cleanliness.
- Departure and routing: Complete daily done setup and shutdown, including stock rotation and prep/par processes.
- Stay updated: Keep track of business promotions, new product launches, and company news.
- Training compliance: Fully participate in all in-house training modules, e-learner sessions, and assigned learning modules.
- Compliance with standards: Strictly adhere to brand standards, licencing laws, and company policy.
- Administrative tasks: Complete all necessary documentation, due diligence records, and cleaning schedules.

Why This Could Be You
No prior experience required! We’ll provide training from the ground up if you’re proud to work here and want to develop your cooking career. The role also supports you towards a national Production Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship over a 15-month period.
Under the supervision of senior M&B chefs, you’ll learn best practices in a hands-on environment—became part of a team that prides itself on quality, guest satisfaction, and teamwork!
What Your Apprenticeship Includes
- Work-based training: No need for college—classes will be delivered in-house through a mix of face-to-face sessions and remote team calls every 6 weeks.
- Protective Mentor: You’ll be paired with a mentor who’ll guide you along the way.
- Essential Functional Skills:
- No prior GCSEs? Don’t worry—we’ll cover Level 2 Maths and English if you need it.
- Progress reviews: Three monthly check-ins with your manager, mentor, and lifetime learner coach for feedback and guidance.
Progression and Development
Upon completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship, you’ll unlock even more opportunities:
- Move on to transfer-level apprenticeships.
- Earn recognition as a contributing member of our team.

Competitive Wages
Starting compensation reflects national apprenticeship rates:
- Age 18–20: £10.85 per hour
- Age 21+: £12.71 per hour
