Chef – Bank Chef (Optional Peripatetic) | Barchester

Are you a qualified chef looking to work with fresh seasonal food, with the opportunity to enjoy better work-life balance and make a meaningful impact on people’s lives?

This is a casual, part-time role offering flexible working. As part of our Hospitality Team at Barchester, you will be responsible for delivering hotel/restaurant standards without the pressure of long shifts. You’ll assist the Head Chef in crafting nutritious, delicious, and balanced menus while working closely with residents to tailor food choices to their preferences. We pride ourselves on person-centred hospitality and are looking for warm, motivated, and passionate chefs who are committed to excellence.

Key Responsibilities (Need to Do)

  • Help manage the kitchen when the Head Chef is absent
  • Work with fresh seasonal produce to deliver high-quality, wholesome dishes to the highest standards
  • Assist in creating a warm, efficient, and enjoyable team environment
  • Operate within budget, ensuring cost-effective yet high-standard food provision
  • Complete regular audits to maintain compliance and quality
  • Manage stock control effectively
  • Support in leading and motivating the kitchen team

Essential Requirements

  • A personable and warm approach, with a genuine interest in improving residents’ wellbeing
  • Qualified through City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent
  • Experience helping to lead and inspire a kitchen team
  • Strong understanding of nutrition and healthy eating
  • Proficiency in working with fresh, seasonal food
  • Ability to foster a warm and welcoming environment
  • Good knowledge of HACCP principles
