About the Role
Job Title: Chef Location: George Abbot School, Guildford (GU1 1XX) Working Days: Monday to Friday Shifts & Hours: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM (40 hours per week) Contract: 39 weeks per year (term time + inset days) Salary: £30,000 per annum
The Opportunity
As a Chef, you’ll work alongside the Chef Manager to ensure students and staff receive fresh, high-quality meals daily. Simply put:
"We’re not in the business of making school food. We’re here to make great food."
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and cooking main meals and snacks
- Utilising fresh, seasonal ingredients for high-volume production (200+ covers)
- Supporting counter and till service occasionally
- Maintaining hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas

Plenty of candidates can cook—we’re looking for passionate chefs who care about quality food and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
You’ll need:
- Hands-on culinary experience (schools/contract catering preferred, but not essential)
- A genuine love for cooking with fresh ingredients
- Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and under pressure
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Empathy and enthusiasm to guide students in enjoying nourishing meals
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
- Reliability and pride in upholding the highest standards
