Position Summary

Type: Full-time (Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 15:00, 37.5 hours/week) Location: Reading, RG6 1PT Salary: £40,000 per annum Key Theme: "The right person utilises passion and expertise to lead culinary excellence."


About the Role

As Chef Manager, you’ll shape menus, lead teams, and deliver hospitality revolutionised. In this role, you’ll:

  • Inspire culinary creativity to meet the unique needs of each venue.
  • Empower and develop staff at all levels.
  • Sustain operational excellence through cost control, safety, and financial oversight.

Responsibilities

Culinary Leadership

  • Menu Planning & Innovation: Create menus aligned with style/location preferences; stay ahead with culinary trends, ensuring consistency and innovation.
  • Dish Execution: Oversee food preparation, presentation, and quality—minimizing waste, controlling portions, and troubleshooting.
  • Staff Development: Train, coach, and mentor chefs, cooks, and front-of-house teams to reflect BaxterStorey standards.

Operations & Compliance

  • Inventory & Cost Control: Manage stock levels, reduce waste, and optimize ordering to support budgetary goals.
  • Customer Relations: Gather feedback to customize experiences; resolve concerns proactively.
  • Health & Safety: Collaborate with the Head Chef to ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace protocols.

Financial & Strategic Impact

  • Budget Management: Develop and monitor kitchen budgets, track financial performance, and implement savings without compromising quality.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain accurate records and uphold legal/corporate guidelines for catering environments.
  • Menu Development: Continuously refine offerings, staying current on trends and team feedback.

Requirements

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven track record as a Chef Manager or head chef.
  • Advanced culinary expertise with a focus on quality, presentation, and consistency.
  • Leadership abilities: Ability to recruit, train, and retain (inclusive) high-performance teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in food cost management and budgeting.
  • Regulatory commitment: Knowledge of health & safety regulations and food safety protocols.

Soft Skills

  • Communication: Clear verbal/written skills for customer collaboration and team coaching.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving demands.
