Chef Manager

Chef Manager – FTC (12 Month Contract, Ideally from September 2026)

Location: Sevenoaks Preparatory School TN15 0JU

Contract Type: Term-time • 38 working weeks

Salary: £35,500 per annum

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Chef Manager to lead the kitchen team at Sevenoaks Preparatory School.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing daily kitchen operations to ensure the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.
  • Supporting and motivating a small kitchen team, fostering a positive working environment.
  • Overseeing menu planning, stock control, and supplier relationships.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records (budgets, ordering, stock rotation).
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety, health & safety, and safeguarding policies.
  • Collaborating with the school community to deliver a friendly and efficient catering experience.
  • Championing allergen controls and compliance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead kitchen operations for quality, safety, and presentation.
  • Oversee small kitchen team with leadership and motivational support.
  • Conduct menu planning, stock control, and supplier negotiations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records (budgets, inventory).
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and safeguarding policies.
  • Foster collaborative partnering with the school community.
  • Champion allergen controls.

Candidate Profile:

  • Previous experience as a Chef Manager in contract catering (preferably with independent schools).
  • Strong kitchen management and leadership skills.
  • Passion for fresh, seasonal ingredients and balanced, appealing menus.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards, allergen management, and sustainability.
