Chemical Waste Specialist

Location: Romford

Contract Type: Full-time, permanent

Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 6am – 2.30pm

Right to work: Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Ethypharm is unable to provide sponsorship for this role.


What You Will Do

The Chemical Waste Specialist’s primary responsibility is to actively manage and process the reception, storage, processing, and disposal of hazardous waste across all work streams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage waste operations end-to-end, including preparation, handling, storage, and coordination of waste shipments.
  • Plan, prepare, and oversee waste collections, including:
    • Load creation
    • Palletisation
    • Safe loading practices during collection activities
  • Operate a forklift for weekly collection pickups, adhering to site procedures and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure all waste is correctly segregated, classified, labelled, and packaged in line with regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate waste documentation, including:
    • Consignment notes
    • Hazardous waste records
    • Contractor documentation
  • Verify waste documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support the preparation and submission of waste documentation to contractors and regulatory bodies where required.
  • Monitor waste metrics (volumes, costs, trends) and contribute to reporting for cost control and continuous improvement.

About You

You will possess:

  • Experience working with chemicals, hazardous materials, or controlled substances in a regulated environment, with expertise in:
    • Safe handling
    • Storage
    • Segregation
    • Disposal requirements
  • An organised, safety-conscious, and detail-focused approach.
  • Confidence in maintaining accurate records, identifying risks, and collaborating with teams to support:
    • Compliance
    • Continuous improvement
    • A positive HSSE culture

Basic Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications).
  • Experience working with chemicals, hazardous materials, or controlled substances in:
    • Manufacturing
    • Pharmaceuticals
    • Laboratories
    • Warehouses or regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • COSHH requirements
    • Chemical labelling
    • Safe storage, segregation, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
