  • Lead the formulation, development, and optimisation of new and existing resin-based and polyurethane products
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate analytical instruments (e.g. chromatography, spectroscopy) to ensure precision and efficiency
  • Collaborate with internal & external stakeholders—from production to sales—to drive product innovation & commercial objectives
  • Develop and validate analytical methods tailored for Polyurethane formulations and recipes in R&D
  • Interpret complex analytical data to troubleshoot processes, enhance quality, and guide continuous improvement initiatives
  • Author detailed technical reports, methodologies and documentation adhering to internal protocols and industry standards (e.g. ISO/ASTM compliance)
  • Stay updated on emerging industry trends, new analytical techniques, and evolving safety/regulatory landscape
  • Work in a fast-paced yet collaborative environment, balancing autonomy with proactive partnership
  • Uphold safety, health, and environmental compliance in all lab and manufacturing operations

Key Responsibilities

✔ Research & Development

  • Actively contribute to product innovation, including the development of new resurfacing solutions, lifestyle products (e.g. synthetic grass/wood) and expanded polymers/membranes
  • Assess sustainability impacts and high-performance materials to align with business goals

✔ Quality & Assurance

  • Ensure all products meet strict quality control standards and customer expectations
  • Drive compliance with industry regulations (e.g. REACH, HSE, EFTA)

✔ Technical Engagement

  • Work closely with production, engineering and sales teams to translate R&D breakthroughs into commercial success
  • Present findings in clear technical communications (e.g. lab reports, training materials, innovation roadmaps)

✔ Technical Leadership

  • Train and mentor lab technicians and junior chemists to ensure robust analytical practices
  • Lead cross-functional projects, fostering innovation and operational excellence

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science or closely related discipline
  • Direct relevant experience with Polyurethane chemistry and formulations (resins, paints, coatings)
  • Proficiency in analytical/instrumental techniques (e.g. GPC, HPLC, ATR-FTIR, TGA, rheometry, microscopy)
  • Ability to independently plan experiments, interpret data and solve technical challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication (able to translate complex science for divergent audiences)
  • Familiarity with ISO/ASTM methods regarding polymer/plastic materials testing

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in plastics, petrochemicals or composites manufacturing
  • Hands-on exposure to batch production controls or pilot plant validation
  • Project management skills in R&D environments (agile/scrum methodologies)
  • Certification in Health & Safety (e.g. LabCoE standards, COSHH)
  • Fluency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) (e.g. Premier IBB, LabVanta)
