The Role:
Investigo are very pleased to have been retained, as the exclusive search recruitment partner with a leading Professional Organisation, to find a Chief A.I. Officer/CTO of Artificial Intelligence. This is a role for a subject matter expert on A.I., who truly understands the complexity & benefits of A.I. innovation & how the science behind it can really benefit a commercial organisation & align the technology with business goals. Please note it will Not suit someone where A.I. has been one facet of their experience, such as managing A.I. teams or top down strategy. This is a very in-depth exciting opportunity, that requires very strong & proven hands-on experience in the science of A.I. and how it integrates into a business from both a very technical and strategis perspective.
Initially positioned internally, as an innovation, transformation and change leadership role the A.I. CTO will be accountable and responsible for the creation and development of the AI journey and implementation across the organisation. Creating a vision, roadmap and taking the wider business through change will be a core element to the role. This is expected to be a minimum two-year transformation journey, not a short project, and the firm sees a credible path for the role to continue beyond the initial transformation phase — potentially extending into supporting the firm's own advisory/consulting offering to clients on similar transformation work.
Role Mandate:
- Set the firm-wide AI and digital transformation strategy and roadmap, translating boardroom ambition into a practical, sequenced plan.
- Own key architecture and platform decisions — tooling choice, data and IP governance, agentic AI/LLM deployment, and emerging integration approaches such as MCP servers.
- Build a sustainable, controlled (but fast) delivery model to replace ad hoc, founder-led experimentation — including a proper implementation team and clear guardrails on how AI tools will be handled.
- Handle confidential client data and firm IP.
- Act as a credible filter and prioritisation layer between the ~200+ ideas and requests arriving from partners and staff, and what actually gets built.
- Provide the strategic and technical air cover that allows the current Director of Technology to focus on delivery and team management rather than fielding every incoming request himself.
- Bring outside perspective and pattern recognition from having led comparable AI/technology implementations & transformations elsewhere, so the firm can move with conviction rather than reinventing the analysis from scratch.
- Engage confidently and credibly with partners and senior stakeholders who are intelligent, commercially sharp, and will test and challenge new ways of working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What are we looking for:
Technical & intellectual calibre
- Highly technical and “highly intelligent”. Someone who thinks with strong logical rigour — a genuine “logician” rather than someone whose AI experience amounts to surface-level LLM usage.
- Real, demonstrable prior experience implementing AI/automation transformation — able to show tangible evidence of what was built, how, and the business impact achieved, not just familiarity with the subject.
- Strong enough technically to understand architecture, data/tooling integration and platform decisions in detail, while also holding the strategic roadmap view — this is a blend of hands-on technical credibility and big-picture thinking, not one or the other.

Style & behavioural fit
- Able to have direct, evidence-based debate with senior stakeholders — comfortable being challenged, and just as comfortable pushing back with “show me the work” rather than accepting resistance without justification.
- Delivery-oriented and credible with people who thrive in a fast-paced environment, not someone who talks well conceptually but doesn’t execute.
- Able to bring people on the journey — explain direction and rationale in plain, relatable language rather than pure technical jargon, since a large part of the challenge is managing partner and staff sentiment through change.
- Resilient and personable enough to handle a partnership environment where stakeholders are intelligent, may feel professionally threatened by AI, and can be direct or difficult.
Background required
- Professional services background strongly preferred, ideally with relatable experience of multi-service, partner-governed or regulated environments where things are less simple than they first appear.
- Open on exact previous route into the role (technology, transformation, consulting), but not suited for applicants, whose approach is overly simplistic or theoretical (“you just do this, then that, and everyone does it”) given the complexity of a 23-partner, multi service, multi-regulator business
