About the Role

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), renowned for its modern, high-quality patient care and progressive medicine, is expanding its exciting transformation journey. As we move towards our next phase of improvement, we seek an exceptional Chief AHP to lead the strategic and operational delivery of Allied Health Professional (AHP) services within the South Sector.

This key role is accountable for service development, professional standards, and clinical delivery, ensuring alignment with NHSGGC’s core principles: Better Care, Better Health, Better Workplace, and Better Value.

The Chief AHP will drive both operational efficiency and strategic growth, fostering a patient-focused culture while supporting the Director of the South Sector in delivering safe, high-quality care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Operational Delivery

    • Provide professional leadership over all AHP services within the South Sector, ensuring alignment with local, regional, and national objectives.
    • Develop and implement service improvements while maintaining clinical governance, performance standards, and safety.
    • Directly manage team leads and collaborate across service boundaries to create a whole-system approach.
  • Resource Management & Business Performance

    • Accountable for resource delegation and management within the defined service area.
    • Drive business and clinical performance targets, contributing to the Acute Operating Division’s wider goals.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

    • Work closely with General Managers, Clinical Service Managers, Lead Nurses, Clinical Directors, and Senior Clinicians.
    • Represent AHP interests at senior management and Board level, ensuring a unified, patient-centred vision.
  • Service Development & Continuous Improvement

    • Lead service improvement initiatives, leveraging senior-level AHP experience in complex healthcare environments.
    • Support politically aware decision-making, demonstrating influencing skills and resilience in a demanding setting.
  • Cultural & Performance Development

    • Foster an open, accountable, and supportive workplace culture.
    • Maintain a strong ethical and patient-focused performance culture.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • Demonstrable senior operational management experience in AHP roles, with a track record in healthcare or equivalent complex environments.
    • Proven leadership at Board or senior management level in a large NHS/Health & Social Care organisation.
    • Strategic vision and the ability to drive system-wide change while maintaining political acumen.
    • Strong influencing skills, able to inspire confidence and respect across clinical and administrative stakeholders.
    • Excellent all-round general management experience, including budget oversight and resource allocation.
    • Deep understanding of AHP roles in safe service delivery and collaborative improvement methods.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development for the AHP workforce.
