Role description
At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Chief Product Engineer to be based at our office in Warwick.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role
A senior engineering leadership role with full vehicle programme accountability from concept through launch. The Chief Product Engineer holds overall engineering authority for the programme, ensuring delivery against technical, cost, timing, quality, safety, regulatory and customer objectives. The role requires a highly experienced automotive engineering leader capable of driving cross-functional alignment across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, commercial, finance and supplier organisations.
Delivers full vehicle programme engineering outcomes end to end across multiple engineering disciplines, functions, suppliers and locations. Accountable for whole-vehicle integration, technical issue resolution, validation strategy, launch readiness and engineering team leadership. Makes final engineering decisions on trade-offs across cost, timing, weight, performance, manufacturability and quality. Operates at senior executive level across both internal and external stakeholder environments.
Area of Responsibility
- Full Vehicle Programme Ownership: End-to-end accountability for engineering delivery through all development gateways. Leads integration of all vehicle systems including body, chassis, electrical, software, propulsion, electrified systems, thermal, safety, interior, exterior and manufacturing engineering. Senior engineering decision-maker for all programme trade-offs.
- Propulsion and Electrified Systems Delivery: Technical leadership of powertrain and electrified system integration. Oversees development and validation of hybrid operating strategies, energy management, thermal systems and control software. Drives resolution of complex system integration issues including drivability, NVH, thermal performance and electrical architecture.
- Programme Governance: Chairs engineering programme reviews, technical gateway reviews and issue escalation forums. Establishes delivery plans, milestones, escalation routes, decision rights and accountability. Presents programme status, risks and recovery plans to senior executive and board-level stakeholders.
- Technical Integration and Issue Resolution: Owns whole-vehicle technical integration and cross-functional problem-solving. Leads root-cause analysis, containment and corrective action. Ensures robust engineering change control, configuration management and issue tracking throughout the product lifecycle.
- Validation and Launch Readiness: Owns the engineering validation strategy. Ensures test coverage across durability, safety, emissions, software, functional, performance, thermal, electrical and calibration. Leads engineering support through launch, start of production and early-life quality performance.
- Supplier and Partner Management: Senior technical interface with key suppliers. Ensures supplier delivery aligns with technical requirements, timing, quality and cost. Leads escalation and resolution of supplier engineering issues. Supports sourcing decisions with technical input on capability, risk and delivery maturity.
- Cost, Timing and Business Objectives: Ensures engineering decisions support the business case. Leads value engineering and technical trade-off decisions balancing product ambition with commercial, manufacturing and delivery realities.
- People Leadership: Leads and motivates a large cross-functional engineering team across multiple functions and locations. Provides direction, coaching and challenge to engineering managers, system leads and technical specialists. Creates an environment of accountability, ownership and high performance.

Knowledge / Experience

- Significant years of senior automotive engineering experience with demonstrable time in chief engineer, chief product engineer, vehicle line or senior full vehicle delivery roles.
- Programme experience: Proven delivery of at least one full vehicle programme from concept or early development through launch, involving multiple engineering disciplines, major external suppliers and a large cross-functional team.
- Technical depth: Strong knowledge of vehicle development processes, engineering gateways, validation planning, electrified propulsion systems, homologation, launch readiness and production support.
- Education: Graduate level or equivalent in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical or Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Qualifications: Practitioner level in programme management (e.g. MSP, PgMP or equivalent). Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation advantageous.
