Chief Biomedical Scientist - Coagulation
Chief Biomedical Scientist (Coagulation) – Full-Time Role
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist to join us as a cross-network Chief Biomedical Scientist for Coagulation. This is a full-time position covering three sites across the SHYPS network: Hull, York, and Scarborough.
Applicants must be able to travel regularly between all sites as part of their duties. The role also requires the ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during standard working hours.
This is a key role that provides an opportunity to shape and lead a fast-changing laboratory coagulation service, working closely with clinicians within the Haemophilia specialist team to develop services aligned with new treatments and techniques.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily technical and scientific operations within the department, ensuring efficient and effective laboratory management.
- Lead and deliver a high-quality diagnostic service, contributing to patient care.
- Collaborate with the Head Biomedical Scientist to shape the strategic development of the department.
- Interpret and implement policies to meet service demands while ensuring compliance.
- Standardise procedures across all SHYPS sites and identify opportunities for network-wide improvements.
- Ensure efficient planning, prioritisation and workload allocation at both local and network levels.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
