Chief Engineer
A highly experienced Chief Engineer is required to lead and manage technical staff with significant impact on the portfolio’s results and outputs.
focus on delivery and operation, the Chief Engineer contributes to the development of solutions that drive strategic project/programme goals and business results. They must possess:
- A deep understanding of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.
- The ability to recommend and collaborate on new technical solutions and standards in support of strategy and operations.
About the Role
No two days are the same at Leidos. The successful candidate will:
- Be a natural self-starter and team motivator, guiding the technical team to deliver on Leidos commitments.
- Serve as a leader and champion in technical delivery, with "hands-on" experience at a high level to support key decisions.
- Work with subject matter experts and supporting functions (programme management, business, financial, and senior leadership), providing detailed designs.
Core Skills & Behaviours
- Drives teams towards delivery by shaping and encouraging high performance.
- Significant experience in delivering complex technical deliverables, preferably in Air Traffic Management, using a diverse engineering and technology team.
- Skilled in breaking down technical deliveries into manageable and trackable parts, with experience in:
- Lifecycle methodologies, technical governance, and technical solutions.
- Technical business analysis, systems engineering, including requirements management and Model-Based Systems Engineering.
- Large-scale integrations, service-oriented architecture, and key technologies.
- A keen technical advocate and self-learner, staying updated on the latest trends while inspiring those around them.
- Proven experience in:
- Leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programmes with high technical and business impact.
- Concept of Operations (ConOps) development, shaping solutions from early concept through delivery and operation.
- Systems engineering, including requirements analysis, management, and technical assurance.
- Technical leadership and governance, guiding engineering teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Systems integration and architecture, particularly in large-scale or safety-critical environments.
- Decomposing complex technical problems into measurable delivery plans.
- Managing the full engineering lifecycle, including cost, performance, and trade analyses.
- Modelling, simulation, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Data and information architectures for system performance and delivery.
- Ownership of:
- Configuration management, risk management, and technical compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management, with the ability to challenge, influence, and advise at senior levels.
- Recognised as a technical authority who mentors engineers and sets the standard for technical excellence.

- Pay Range: £98,800.00 – £131,700.00 (subject to factors such as experience, responsibilities, and market alignment).
- Location: UK/Europe.
