Chief Software & Controls Engineer

Location: Coventry, UK or Prague, Czechia (Hybrid)

We're seeking an experienced Chief Software & Controls Engineer to lead the development of embedded control software for advanced electrification programmes, including battery management, power conversion and electric vehicle control systems.

This is a senior technical leadership role, responsible for defining software strategy, leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and delivering high-quality software solutions for safety-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and delivery of embedded control software for real-time systems.
  • Own the software development lifecycle, from requirements through to verification and release.
  • Define software architectures and promote scalable, reusable design.
  • Lead software testing and validation, including MIL, SIL and HIL.
  • Drive compliance with functional safety and cybersecurity standards.
  • Mentor engineers, conduct technical reviews and champion software best practice.
  • Work closely with systems, hardware and validation teams to deliver customer-focused engineering solutions.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years' experience in embedded software and controls engineering.
  • Strong background in embedded C/C++, model-based development and real-time control systems.
  • Experience leading software teams and delivering complex engineering programmes.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols including CAN, LIN, SPI and I2C.
  • Experience within safety-critical industries such as automotive, aerospace, marine or energy is highly desirable.
