Chief of Staff & Project Manager | Lloyd's Managing Agency Start-Up
Location: London (Hybrid) Type: Full-Time Salary: Competitive + Performance Incentives
We are partnered with an ambitious and growing insurance company, embarking on a transformative journey to establish a fully authorised Lloyd’s Managing Agency. This is a distinctive chance to join at a critical juncture and take a central role in a business transitioning from concept to market.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll be the driving force behind strategic execution, overseeing the end-to-end pre-licence process and ensuring that key initiatives are delivered with precision—on time, on track, and to the highest standard.
This role provides exceptional growth potential, with a clear path to evolve into a senior operational leadership position, such as Chief Operating Officer (COO) or Chief People Officer (CPO), as the business scales.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking an exceptional Chief of Staff & Project Manager thrive in complex, fast-paced environments and excel at turning strategy into action.
As the CEO’s trusted partner, you will serve as:
- Delivery Lead – Ensuring momentum across multiple workstreams.
- Project Manager – Overseeing the Lloyd’s "Making it Happen" process and broader regulatory and operational readiness efforts.
- Stakeholder Manager – Coordinating internal and external stakeholders.
- Operational Coordinator – Applying structure, accountability, and clarity to wide-ranging programmes of work.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys driving high-impact initiatives with agility and precision.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Delivery & Programme Management
- Lead and coordinate all Lloyd’s "Making it Happen" process activities.
- Oversee the full pre-licence programme, managing milestones, dependencies, and deliverables effectively.
- Establish and refine programme governance, reporting, and delivery frameworks.
- Track progress across multiple workstreams, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.

CEO Support & Chief of Staff Activities
- Act as a strategic partner to the CEO, translating high-level vision into executable plans.
- Prepare executive briefings, board materials, presentations, and decision papers.
- Manage leadership priorities, follow-ups, and accountability frameworks.
- Ensure key strategic initiatives remain on track and successfully delivered.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, including:
- Lloyd’s governing bodies
- Regulatory authorities
- External advisers
- Capacity providers
- Investors & strategic partners
- Facilitate discussions, workshops, and steering committees.
- Serve as the trusted point of contact for critical external relationships.
Operational Readiness
- Support the design and roll-out of operational processes, governance structures, and business controls.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure ** organisational readiness** for authorisation and launch.
- Drive a culture of execution, accountability, and continuous improvement.
About You
You are highly organised, commercial-minded, and able to operate seamlessly at both strategic and operational levels.
Must-Have Experience & Skills
- Lloyd’s and London Market expertise: Significant experience within the insurance, managing agency, or Lloyd’s syndicate sectors is essential.
- Regulatory & compliance. Deep understanding of the Lloyd’s market, managing agency structure, and regulatory approval processes.
- Programme/Project Execution: Proven track record in leading complex transformational initiatives, authorisation projects, or start-up operations.
- Stakeholder Influence: Exceptional stakeholder management skills with demonstrable ability to influence at senior and executive levels.
- C-Suite Collaboration: Direct experience working with CEOs, founders, or other C-suite executives.
- Leadership & Organisation: Outstanding communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
- Execution Mindset: Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining unwavering attention to detail.
- Start-Up Culture: Proactive, hands-on, and passionate about building from scratch and shaping organisational culture.

Desirable (Bonus Points!)
- Experience supporting a Lloyd’s syndicate, Managing Agency (MGA), or insurance start-up.
- Familiarity with regulatory approval or licensing processes.
- Formal project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, Agile or equivalent).
