Chief Risk Officer (Interim)

Interim Chief Risk Officer (CRO) – Confidential Search

A London-based corporate and wholesale banking institution is seeking a senior interim Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to support their risk management framework. This confidential, interim role offers the opportunity to lead an important strategic function while working closely with senior leaders in a high-stakes financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on enterprise risk management (ERM), including frameworks, policies, and governance structures
  • Oversee credit risk management, ensuring robust credit approval processes, portfolio monitoring, and effective credit risk modelling
  • Maintain strong oversight of market risk, including measurement, risk limits, and controls for trading and investment activities
  • Drive analytical rigor and financial insight, interpreting complex data and presenting findings to senior stakeholders
  • Lead and influence strategic risk leadership, aligning with risk appetite frameworks and board/executive committee expectations
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and industry best practices in risk management

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in Enterprise Risk Management, with a deep understanding of risk frameworks, policies, and governance
  • Strong credit risk background, including experience in credit approval processes, portfolio monitoring, and credit risk modelling
  • Market risk understanding, including limits, controls, and risk monitoring for trading and investment activities
  • Advanced finance and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders
  • Extensive experience in senior risk leadership roles, preferably within financial services or large corporate environments
  • Proven ability to engage with boards and executive committees, shaping strategic risk decisions and risk appetite frameworks
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in risk management
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills—critical for influencing senior decision-makers
