The Opportunity
Reporting into the Chief Executive and collaborating with the Board of NHSBT, the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer (CS&TO) will be pivotal in shaping the organisation’s future. This national leadership role requires:
- Establishing a new Directorate within NHSBT, focusing on strategy, change and transformation.
- Proactively engaging with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities and address priorities.
- Developing strategic cohesion across the Board.
You will be tasked with transforming NHSBT into a future-ready, innovative, and patient-centred organisation while delivering on our ambition to ensure every patient receives the right donation, at the right time.

Key Responsibilities
- Define and deliver a clear, actionable strategy aligned with NHSBT’s vision.
- Lead and accelerate transformation across operations, technology, and culture.
- Collaborate with key partners (across NHS, industry, research, and public sectors) to enhance supply chains, digital innovation, and patient outcomes.
- Drive cultural change to foster an environment of continuous improvement and inclusivity.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and innovation to shape NHSBT’s adaptability.
- Spearhead stakeholder engagement with donors, families, and wider NHS networks.
Requirements
Essential:
- Strategic leadership: Proven ability to develop and execute organisation-wide strategy, driving impactful transformation at scale.
- NHS and healthcare sector expertise: Understanding of public healthcare systems, regulatory environments, and patient-centred innovation.
- Transformation and change management: Strong track record of leveraging digital capabilities and operating in complex, fast-changing environments.
- Effective stakeholder management: Culture of collaboration and influence across diverse groups, from frontline staff to executive leadership.
- Operational excellence: Ability to balance long-term strategy with immediate transformation initiatives.
- Innovation mindset: Comfortable championing new ideas while aligning them to organisational goals.

Desirable:
- Experience in biomedical, supply chain, or life sciences aligned to NHS needs.
- Lord’s and Co. qualification (or equivalent) for roles of this scope.
- Background in generalisable performance improvement (e.g., service redesign, process optimisation).
