Child Protection Manager (Disability Inclusion)
Location: Remote (home-based) with approximately 30% travel to Uganda
Contract: Full-time (37.5 hrs) fixed for 1 year, with the possibility to extend. A part-time position would be considered dependent on experience and circumstance.
Salary: £32,000- £39,000 p/a
Reports to: Director of Child Protection

About the Role
We are seeking a committed and experienced Child Protection Manager to support the implementation of a project focused on preventing and responding to violence against children with disabilities in Uganda and to work on other ritual violence programmes. Working closely with local partners, the Child Protection Manager will provide technical guidance to ensure that project activities are evidence-based, inclusive, safeguarding-centred, and responsive to the diverse experiences of children with disabilities. This role combines technical expertise with practical implementation support and is ideal for someone who is passionate about strengthening inclusive child protection systems and ensuring that children with disabilities can live free from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The position is home-based or based out of office in South Wales, with regular international travel to Uganda (approximately 30%). Regular hours will be 9-5pm UK time but with some flexibility / out of hours work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice on child protection programming, with a focus on violence prevention, including GBV and ritual violence, as well as protection responses for children with disabilities.
- Ensure project activities align with international child protection standards and disability-inclusive approaches.
- Contribute to the campaigns, advocacy, development of guidance, tools, training materials, and technical resources, survivor support case management.
- Provide technical support to implementing partners throughout project delivery.
- Support the adaptation of interventions to ensure accessibility for children with diverse disabilities.
- Promote meaningful participation of children with disabilities and their families throughout the project lifecycle.
- Represent the project in relevant technical working groups and coordination meetings.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, learning, and adaptation activities.
- Review project data and emerging evidence to inform programme improvements.
- Contribute to technical reports, donor reports, case studies, and learning products.
- Support documentation of good practice and lessons learned.

Person Specification
Essential
- Degree in Child Protection, Social Work, International Development, Psychology, Public Health, Education, Disability Studies, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- At least 3 years progressive experience delivering child protection programmes through the UN or NGO in a humanitarian or development context.
- Demonstrable experience working in Protection, GBV, Child Protection or Disability and Inclusion.
- Knowledge of disability inclusion and the barriers faced by children with disabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across international teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally to Uganda for approximately 30% of working time.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and survivor-centred practice.
- Excellent organisation skill.

- Knowledge and experience of monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
- Knowledge of anthropological approaches to research.
- Experience working in Uganda or East Africa.
- Proficiency in a Ugandan language, proficiency in French also an asset.
- Experience supporting disability-inclusive programming.
- Project management experience.
- Familiarity with inclusive research, participatory approaches, or child participation methodologies.
- Experience working on donor-funded programmes.
