Childcare Area Director

Area Director – Children’s Health Centers After School Program

Southern & Central New Hampshire (Rockingham, Hillsborough, Cheshire, Sullivan Counties) Part-Time, Non-Exempt | Year-Round | Reports To: Sr. Regional Director | Direct Reports: Site Directors Salary Range: $22.00 per hour

About the Role

The Area Director is the backbone of Healthy Kids Programs’ (HKP’s) field operations—balancing hands-on execution with strategic oversight. You’ll ensure after-school programs run seamlessly, every site is fully staffed, and all compliance requirements are met. This role demands organization, initiative, and passion for high-quality childcare and building strong school partnerships.

What Success Looks Like

✅ Staffing:

  • Every site has proactive scheduling; no coverage gaps
  • Quality hires with clear expectations from Day 1

✅ Enrollment:

  • Across-your-cluster goals met or exceeded
  • Schools and families see HKP as a dependable, engaging choice

✅ Compliance:

  • Full adherence to state regulations; zero inspection issues
  • Staff certifications and records enforced and updated

✅ Partnerships:

  • Principals and staff treat HKP as an reasonsable, communicative partner

Key Responsibilities

1. Staffing – Recruiting, Hiring & Retention

  • Grow your talent pipeline: Actively recruit and attract top applicants to sites
  • Hire and onboard: Conduct interviews, set clear expectations, and provide welcoming training
  • Proactive scheduling: Manage daily/weekly schedules, including substitute coverage to avoid gaps
    • Audit ratios per site/activity; optimize costs while ensuring ratios are met
  • Staff support & development:
    • Coach Site Directors and frontline staff in real time
    • Address performance issues with documentation and constructive clear expectations
    • Foster a supportive, mission-aligned team environment

2. Enrollment & Program Quality

  • Monitor enrollment: Track each site’s performance and take action on early missed targets before the iteration becomes a crisis
  • Weekly visits: Observe programs firsthand, provide real-time coaching to teams, and flag risks
  • Engage families: Ensure postulations use HKP’s materials and strategies; address “red flag” concerns to retain enrollment
  • Post newspaper campaigns: Support enrollment marketing efforts at schools and in the community

3. State Licensing Compliance

  • Correctly maintain certifications: Every linked site and staff must meet state laws; deadlines serve
    • Verify credentials (e. g., staff training on CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter)
  • Proactive compliance walkthroughs: Audit ratios, records, once improvements to state standards
  • Protect from issues: Swift response to agency questions or citations; escalate changes only if unreables

4. School Partnerships (Day-to-Day)

  • Direct contact point: Engage consistently with principals, PAs, and front desk staff while showing trust and dependability
  • Resolve tensions at school-level: Quick fixes for building-specific concerns without unnecessary escalation**
  • Educate and update: Share programs offerings, headcount shifts, and operational “hotspots”

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Background

  • Education: Two-year degree or equivalent OR:
    • 2–3 years supervisory experience in childcare, youth development, K-12 education, or a related high-touch industry
  • Scheduling Specialists: Experience managing staff across multiple sites; coordinating schedules and ensuring correct ratio compliance
  • Public Sector Acquaintance: Familiarity with state childcare laws via past work—instance or internships
