Site Director - Hemphill Elementary School (Birmingham, AL)
Location Hemphill Elementary School, Birmingham, AL
Pay $17.00–$20.00 per hour
Schedule Monday–Friday, 2:30–6:00 pm Follows school calendar, with potential for summer hours
Classification Part-Time, Non-Exempt

About the Role
The Site Director is the cornerstone of a Healthy Kids Programs location, responsible for:
- Delivering a high-quality, engaging, and trustworthy program
- Ensuring staff are supported and operations run smoothly
- Maintaining full compliance with state requirements
- Establishing an environment where kids thrive, families trust, and happy policies are followed

What Success Looks Like
- Program Quality: Kids are engaged, safe, and happy daily—families re-enroll consistently
- Staffing: Full, prepared staff present every day
- Compliance: Ratios maintained; records accurate; ready for inspections at any time
- Inventory: Supplies available; teachers never lack materials mid-week
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Quality and Enrollment
- Deliver a high-quality program aligning with HKP’s curriculum and values
- Implement HKP’s 10 Healthy Ways to Engage with Students and daily materials
- Create a welcoming, safe, and fun environment where every child feels valued
- Communicate effectively with families, maintaining warmth and openness
- Drive enrollment by delivering a program families want, supporting retention and referrals
- Participate in enrollment events and outreach efforts
2. Staffing — Supporting and Leading Teachers
- Supervise and support Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers
- Set clear expectations for conduct, program quality, and professionalism
- Conduct regular walkthroughs, offering real-time feedback during observations
- Communicate scheduling needs-proactively to your Multi-Site Director
- Assist new staff onboarding, training them efficiently
- Address performance concerns or misunderstandings immediately and document correctly
- Foster a supportive team culture through leadership by example

3. Payroll, Labor, and Scheduling Efficiency
- Schedule staff properly to meet child-to-staff ratios, ensuring neither over- nor under-staffing
- Review and approve timecards accurately and on time
- Monitor payroll costs against the budget, correcting cost anomalies
- Build efficient schedules with minimal unnecessary overtime, maximizing coverage
- Communicate schedule changes clearly to staff; document all adjustments
- Accurately utilize HKP scheduling platforms (e.g., Paylocity)
4. Compliance — Ratios and Site Safety
- Maintain correct staff-to-child ratios at all times—this is mandatory
- Take daily attendance accurately, keeping records up to date and organized
- Ensure the program is safe, clean, and compliant with Alabama DHR licensing
- Verify all staff certifications (CPR, First Aid, Mandated Reporter, etc.)
- Report any safety or compliance issues immediately
- Be prepared for licensing inspections at any time, maintaining high standards daily
5. Inventory Management
- Keep supply and equipment well-organized
- Track current stock levels, flagging when restocks are needed before shortages occur
- Ensure teachers have arts, activities, and academic tools for programs
- Maintain cleanliness and storage order at the close of each day
- Report broken, missing, or damaged equipment promptly
- Model responsible stewardship of resources
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to pass a TB test
- Ability to complete required trainings if not already certified (state-mandated)
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to acquire upon hire)
- Familiarity with Alabama DHR licensing standards
- Knowledge of Arise system used is preferred
